Patricia Kaersenhout

Patricia KaersenhoutBorn in Den Helder, Holland, but a descendant from Surinamese parents, Patricia Kaersenhout developed an artistic journey in which she investigates her Surinamese background in relation to her upbringing in a West European culture.
The political thread in her work raises questions about the African Diaspora movements and its relation to feminism, sexuality, racism and the history of slavery. As an artist, I’m in a constant state of becoming, she writes.
Patricia Kaersenhout has studied Fine Arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. She has participated in exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad and her work has been published in several publications. Currently her work is to be seen in the show Caribbean Crossroads in New York. She is preparing new work for the Black Magic Woman festival 2012 and a major show in 2013 concerning 150 years of abolition.
